If you’ve thought about taking time off to travel but aren’t sure how to make it happen, this article by @AdventurousKate breaks it down.
India isn’t expensive. I’ve traveled here for almost three months, comfortably, on less than two weeks of my NYC salary. And I was a writer at a magazine—not an investment banker.
Yes, there’s sacrifices. When I decided I wanted to travel—about seven months prior to leaving—I started saving up. I cooked at home (#tragic since my repertoire includes only blue box mac & cheese and PB&J). I said no to a lot of plans and weekend getaways that would cost money; I said yes to a lot of dinner dates when I would have rather been watching 30 Rock reruns.
I cancelled Showtime, I quit Equinox. I shopped at H&M. As Kate says in the article, it really is as simple as making travel a priority. I, for one, am really glad I did.
