Meet Chintain, the charismatic shopkeeper behind Maharani Art Exporters in Jodhpur, India.
He’ll enthusiastically tell you his clients include Hermes, Armani and Louis Vuitton—among others—before presenting you with a textile show in his colorful warehouse.
He’ll roll out the gilded sheets that Donna Karan apparently exports, plaid pashminas from the new Armani collection and a paisley throw that “retails for thousands” at Hermes. Luckily, you can buy them directly from him for “good price” of $200. His best selling point? “Richard Gere bought 105”.
There are pictures of Liz Hurley shopping his store in addition to my humble review: The hours I spent there perusing fabrics and trying on shawls was incredibly fun.
I left with a beautiful horse-print cashmere scarf that I can’t wait to wear. Chintain told me the pattern is part of Roberto Cavalli’s line, but I’ll be happier just telling people it’s from Jodhpur.
